Activities to mark National Farmworker Awareness Week
CAMP director Arnoldo Perez said he hopes the campus community can learn about the struggles migrant workers, farm workers and their families face today. He said some students must look at current economic conditions to decide whether to pursue college degrees or work to earn money for their families.
Activities include a Cesar Chavez Commemorative March at 11 a.m. today from the UTB-TSC Student Union to Brownsville City Hall. Students must meet outside the Student Union with program members to sign waivers before participating. Chavez is the co-founder of the United Farmworkers Union.
A panel discussion is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday in the Science and Engineering Technology Building third floor conference room. Some of the scheduled panelists include David Rivera, director of UTB-TSC’s Veterans Upward Bound Program, Brownsville freshman and CAMP member Mayra Morin and Rodolfo Sanchez of the Migrant Legal Assistance Office.
An awareness rally is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, featuring music, free food and drinks at the gazebos.
The CAMP office is in Cardenas Hall North Room 122. For more information contact Perez at 882-7873 or arnold.perez@utb.edu.
