PUSD Cesar Chavez Art and Essay Contest Winners

Students ranging from K-12 grade levels participated in an art and essay contest in honor of labor activist Cesar Chavez. Five students in Altadena schools placed in the contest.

First Place, High School: Helen Avancena, 9th grade, Blair

The Pasadena Unified School District announced the winners of its K-12 Cesar Chavez Day art and essay contest winners, and five students come from Altadena schools.

Jordan Trice, a fifth-grader from Altadena Elementary, took second place in the Grade 3-5 art contest; 8th-grader Cynthia Sandoval, from Eliot Middle School, took second in the Grade 6-8 art contest; 1st-grader Joshua Lee Roberson, from Franklin Elementary, took 3rd place in the K-2 essay contest; 5th-grader Anayeli Rodriguez, of Jackson Elementary, took first place in the Grade 3-5 essay contest; 4th-grader Vanessa De La Cruz, of Altadena Elementary, took second place in the Grade 3-5 essay contest.

The essays and art work were judged by local historians, artists, and community members, according to the PUSD press release. The art is on display at PUSD headquarters.
