Cesar Chavez Day parade celebrates Latino heritage

Houstonians came together to honor Latino heritage Saturday at the 13th annual Cesar Chavez Day Parade.

The parade ended with a celebration at Hidalgo Park in the east end.

Visitors enjoyed food and music while Congressman Gene Green spoke about Chavez, the Mexican-American labor activist who founded the United Farm Workers of America.

Green said Chavez’s movement inspired workers in south Texas.

Saturday would have been Chavez’s 85th birthday. He died in 1993.
