Farm workers and supporters from the United Farm Workers marched in Bakersfield Thursday seeking a House of Representatives vote on immigration reform legislation.
They also went to the Bakersfield office of Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Bakersfield. According to a UFW news release, their message was, "I harvest for 10 hours a day. Can you take 10 minutes to schedule a vote?"
In a written statement, McCarthy spokesman Vince Fong wrote, "Our immigration system is broken and any workable solution must first start with securing our border. It is unfortunatge that protest groups continue to resort to occupy tactics that only seek to disrupt and harass which prevent our office from serving our community."
