6th Annual Cesar Chavez Celebration Dinner

The Latino Student Association (LSA) of Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis, will be hosting the 6th Annual César Chávez Celebration Dinner.
This dinner is an annual celebration in honor of the civil right activist, César Chávez. Mr. Chávez worked for social justice and human dignity for migrant workers. His effort and sacrifice has become a legacy in the Latino/a community. During this dinner we will celebrate such legacy, while recognizing the effort and success of our Latino/a students, staff/faculty and community members.
This year we are pleased to present Ms. Denice Frohman as our keynote speaker. Ms. Frohman is an award-winning poet, lyricist, and educator, whose multicultural upbringing inspires her to explore the intersections of race, gender, sexuality, and the “in-betweeness” that exists in us all. In keeping with our theme “Challenging Authority… Somos la Revolución,” Ms. Frohman as a poet has created art for social change, her work seeks to challenge definitions of "normalcy" and reimagine the borders that divide us. As a queer woman from a multi-cultural background who pushes gender norms, her work is about claiming the power to wear multiple identities proudly, and to wear them however we wish. Her poetry is a celebration of difference, and centers around loving the parts of ourselves that do not fit neatly into dominant social categories.
The celebration will take place at the Sagamore Ballroom, Indiana Convention Center on Sunday, March 24th, program begins promptly at 6:00pm and ends at 9:00pm.
